The community is rallying in remembrance of the late Lance Ross, owner of the iconic Freight Station Bar and a well-known figure in our community. We spoke with his daughter about his recent passing.
“I would just really like him to be remembered as the fun, amazing guy that he was," said Brittany Wolfhope, daughter of Lance Ross. "I mean, anytime he would go to a party, he was every kids best friend. He was always known for bringing something that either blinked for the kids, did something, shocked them even, just something funny. He just really loved everybody and he has three beautiful granddaughters that we were really hoping, my mom just passed away in November – late October, and we were just really hoping that he would get to spend more time with them and watch them grow. It’s just a shame that he’s never going to have that opportunity now.
When Lance Ross was found inside the Freight Station on Monday, the initial belief was that the 65-year-old fell. But, Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees announced Friday that authorities are investigating his death as a homicide. Lees said Ross was found with multiple blunt force trauma injuries as a result of a "violent assault."
“I just want to say if anybody has any information like they said yesterday, anything that you saw on Sunday, saw him anywhere at anything," said Wolfhope. "Please, just call and let them know. It doesn’t matter if you think it or not. We just want to know. We want to get to the bottom of this. He deserves justice, he did not deserve this at all.”
His daughter Brittany tells us she doesn't know what will become now of the Freight Station.
“Unfortunatelym it’s just up in the air right now," said Wolfhope. "Our main goal is to just find out who did this and get him justice first and then we’ll take it from there and see where things go. He always had said that he did this for my mom because she just loved live music, really enjoyed it. But, I know that he really wanted this for himself too just because this was something that he could enjoy, that he could also include with my mom as well. I know that he wanted this to be the best place it could be not just for us but for the community itself.”
A viewing is scheduled on Sunday at the Hindman Funeral Home from 12:00 to 3:00pm with service after, open to the public.
"Everyone just has something nice to say and that’s really heartwarming," said Wolfhope. "I’m glad to hear that because I know that he would be proud to be known, that he would know that.”
